Third-Grade Objectives

  • Student will know a variety of ways to share information.
  • Student will be able to recognize there are many types of information sources.
  • Student will be able to identify materials, with assistance, appropriate to student reading ability.
  • Student will be able to identify the effect of the copyright date on the value of the information.
  • Student will know that there are methods to use in order to choose books they will enjoy on an appropriate reading level.
  • Student will know we make connections (text to self, text to text and text to world).
  • Student will know there are different literary genres.
  • Student will know there are different book awards in childrenʼs literature.
  • Student will be able to choose books they will enjoy on an appropriate reading level.
  • Student will make connections between what they read and their life, other books and the world.
  • Student will recognize tall tales, poetry, mystery, science fiction and short stories when a book in one of these genres is read to them.
  • Student will be able to identify books that have won an award and he or she will be able to discuss what makes the books worthy of an award.
  • Student will understand what a call number is and why it is important.
  • Student will follow the norms and procedures that are in place in the library such as for check in and check out.
  • Student will begin to sort and locate books to the third letter using the authorʼs last name.
